How Crimson Moon difficulty works

Difficulty applies to the active run and higher tiers unlock through progression. Harder settings offer greater rewards, but exact enemy-health, damage and reward multipliers are not publicly documented. The game also adapts enemy composition for solo and two-player co-op.

How to change difficulty

  1. Finish, die in or abandon the current run.
  2. Return to the pre-run setup at Sanctus Clypeus.
  3. Select an unlocked difficulty before starting Mission 1.

Once the run has started, changing its setup means abandoning it and beginning again from Mission 1. This is separate from changing the permanent Loadout, which is also locked during an active run.

Co-op warning

Players have reported cases where the host and guest result screens show different difficulty levels or progression credit. Until an official fix confirms otherwise, both players should check their post-mission difficulty display and quest unlocks. This is a reported launch issue, not intended difficulty behavior.

Quick answers

Can you change difficulty during a Crimson Moon run?
Not without ending the active run. Finish, die in or abandon it, then choose an unlocked difficulty before starting Mission 1 again.
Why does co-op show the wrong difficulty?
Players have reported host and guest difficulty or progression mismatches. Check both result screens and current official patch notes; this is a reported issue, not intended behavior.

Verification note

Official sources define intended behavior. Community timing and bug reports are labelled separately and can change after patches.
